Thank you for sharing your talent with us and being part of the Underlined Community. It has been a pleasure to read your work and see this community grow.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. On June 5, 2023, the writing platform of the Underlined website will no longer be supported.
What does this mean for you? Read on for answers to the most frequently asked questions.
Why the change to the writing platform?
As our website and community continue to grow and change, we have made the decision to stick to what we do best—book content! Underlined has always been a home for Book Nerds, and in order to continue to be the best resource for our community, we want to dedicate our efforts to providing the best website experience for readers. Unfortunately, this means streamlining the functionality of our site and no longer supporting the writing platform.
But I still want to be part of a writing community!
There are plenty of writing communities out there! Here are a few you can join. While we are not affiliated with these organizations or officially endorsing their services, we have heard great things about them over the years! Of course, please vet any online community you choose to join.
- NaNoWriMo (for writers ages 18+)
- NaNoWriMo Young Writers Program (for writers under 18)
- Wattpad (for writers interested in sharing their writing with a large online community)
- Critique Circle (for writers looking to have their work critiqued by other writers)
- Scribophile (for writers looking to take part in writing workshops)
- She Writes (writing community exclusively for women)
When is the last day I will have access to my account?
June 4, 2023, is the last day you’ll have access to your account. After 11:00 p.m. ET on June 4, you will no longer be able to log in.
When is the last day I can request an HTML download of my writing?
June 4, 2023, is the last day to request a download of your writing. Please don’t wait until the last day! If the only saved copy of your writing exists on the Underlined site, you will lose it completely if you do not request a download via this form by June 4. The Underlined team will not be able to recover your work after June 4.
How do I request an HTML download of my writing?
If you do not already have a backup of your writing saved on your computer, you can request a download of your writing via this form to receive a Microsoft Word (.docx) file of your writing. Your writing will be in HTML format (for example, <p>The brown fox <em>jumped</em> over the lazy dog.</p>) to make it easy for you to upload to another online writing platform.
What will the HTML download of my writing look like?
If you’d like to see a sample of what your writing will look like in HTML format, you can view a demo story here.
When will I receive the HTML download of my writing?
Requests will be handled in the order they are received. Please allow 60 days for the file to be delivered to you as this is not an automatic process and our small team will be pulling these files manually. Any requests received after 11:00 p.m. ET on June 4 will not be honored.
