New Year, New Things to Try!

January 1st means a new year and a new opportunity to CRUSH your New Year’s resolutions, to manage the heck out of your time, and to get your wardrobe fresh to death. Basically to be like, “New year, who dis?”

In the midst of the jittery excitement of the new year, it’s also painfully clear that we’re all entering into an action-packed time of starting new projects for the year, planning new adventures, diving into the second half of the school year, and trying to find a minute to sleep. It’s going to take more than a few cups of coffee to get you through it all.

That’s why we’ve compiled a list of things to try in 2018 to spice things up and to smooth out those stressors while you’re busy running the world:

1. Chill Out with Some Heavenly Scents

If your AP exam prep has you hyperventilating, sweeten those inhales. Aromatherapy is an all-natural method for soothing your senses using essential oils, with roots in ancient healing practices that date all the way back to the ancient Egyptians! Lavender and sandalwood are two major go-to scents to calm you down and relieve stress, and peppermint helps with focus and alertness. Do your research to find the blends you need, but be careful! Essential oils are powerful potions and should not be applied directly to the skin. Not to worry—there are tons of amazing lotions, perfumes, and balms that get the job done. Check out these:

2. A New Take on the Buddy System

The buddy system has always been pretty foolproof, because, to put it simply, two is better than one. Buddies help keep you safe and keep you company, but buddies can also keep you accountable! What new goal do you want to set for this new year? Maybe you want to work out three times a week, or meditate every day, or revamp your study habits so you get all As. It’s a lot easier to stay on track when you’ve got a buddy keeping you 100. Find a friend you trust, figure out your top goals (they can be the same of different), and work to keep each other on task by checking in regularly. This can be a text, a snap, or even meeting up during a free period. If you’re the competitive type, you can even make it a competition. Either way, you’ll get some added motivation to own those goals.

3. Down Dog It Out

We know you’ve heard about yoga and that you have at least one friend who raves about it. Why not give it a try this year? Yoga is meant to bring your mind, body, and spirit into blissful balance, which can be challenging during a busy school year, so there’s really no reason NOT to try it! You can do a quick search to find a delightful studio in your area, or maybe there’s a club in your school, or you can find some awesome free classes on the wonderful World Wide Web.

4. Try Some Trends!

The fun thing about trends is that they make you feel cool AF. We put together this list of some of our favorites. Ahem, sleeves all day.

5. Spice Up Your Reading List

We double-dog dare you to get out of your reading comfort zone and try a new genre! Are you a fantasy junkie? Try some nonfiction! Are you all about the romance? Try a graphic novel! As always, we’ve got suggestions. …
