Thinks & Inks

By @astrid_hartman

Soldiering On

She tightens her bun

Pulling the hat farther down

Trying to not look at me

To see the way I frown

At the camouflage uniform she’s wearing

She doesn’t need me to say it

To speak my fears,

Feel my tears

As she will be forced to look in the mirror

Everyday afterwards

And wonder why she didn’t stay

Why she had to break my heart that day

To make me worry forevermore

Worry that she may not come back from this war…
