“Lorelei, you have a problem leaving the stuff you care about by themselves. He was so easy to take. At least he put up a fight. Now, you can’t ignore me. I have something you want. You have something I want. What will you do to get him back, I wonder?” Mortdecai asked. He went over to a semi-conscious Joel. “How did you get your abilities?”
Joel stayed silent.
Mortdecai grabbed Joel by the hair. “I asked you a question. The other one talked too much, and you don’t talk at all? I can’t tell which one of you is more annoying.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Joel said.
Mortdecai punched Joel in the face, followed up by a kick to the stomach. “I take it back. I hate you more than the other one. I guess that doesn’t matter. You’ll be dead soon. Along with most of the city.”
Joel picked himself up and tried to hit Mortdecai back, but several spirits appeared and held him back. “The hell?”
“You think Lorelei was the only one who could attract spirits? I have friends too. They’re a lot more interesting than the ones that follow her. Would you guys mind showing our guest here how things work? I have some last-minute things to take care of.” Mortdecai said, leaving the room. The sound of Joel’s screams echoed throughout the halls.
