A short world war 3 story based on the passages of the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse.

Chapter 1

There are always at least two agents in the office with me for security purposes, and so i don’t get lonely, although they never really talk much. They always just kind of stand there, and honestly I get it, they’re probably not really supposed to talk to me. The biggest stereotype there is about me, the President of the United States is that I’m always busy with something, when in reality unless I’m talking to some government agency, signing a bill, or negotiating with some other country I get kinda bored. But there was something different about today, something strange in the air.

The generals have been talking about the Russians for some time now, something about a naval threat that needs to be kept in check, but I thought it was just fine. We had decent relations with them for some time now. The phone began to ring and something felt off immediately. I picked it up and it was the pentagon, that phone wasn’t supposed to ring unless something was very wrong, and it was. I got word that the Russians had redirected a large fleet of naval vessels toward the east coast.

Normally I Wouldn’t be worried, but normally when a fleet is redirected, they aren’t carrying several thousand tons of ordnance aimed right at our major cities. And then it began. My agents on guard tilted their heads and held a finger to their ears. Both of them grimaced in fear as they listened, it was as though they had just been sentenced to death. I looked down at the phone as it began to ring again, the Russians had begun an invasion. Before I knew it Secret service began pouring into my office to escort me to the war room.

“I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest”

The bombs had begun to fall as the shells made impact, red blips on the map in front of me showed a massive fleet of ships, more than a hundred. A cascade of red blips came up as more planes took off from aircraft carriers, while blue dots from all across the country scrambled to the east coast to meet the invaders head-on. I began to fear the worst as the whispering died down and there was one question that filled the room, What do we do.

“Evacuate the east coast, get every living person out of there, we move the main forces up to create a blockade, they will not take the capital”. My words rang out through the room as people ran back and forth putting out alerts, coordinating the evacuation of over a hundred million, a near-impossible task. The DEFCON level was raised to two, reserve troops were brought in and briefed, every military force in the nation was ready to deploy with just a six-hour notice, the gun was loaded, all we had to do was **** the hammer. Within hours I was evacuated via armored car disguised to look like a work van to a discrete location not even I knew about. This is war.

“Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given the power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword”

It took a week. One god ****** week for them to take the upper east coast and the capital. They Landed in Massachusetts and continued their unholy crusade through New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and then they finally reached Washington. They took the White-house, destroyed the Washington Monument, and raised their flag. Within five hours of taking the White-house, they tried to negotiate our surrender but I’ll be ****** if they’re going to take us down. We’ve already begun to mobilize a massive assault on key points to push them out of the capital. In the light of our Lord, God, we will persevere through even the darkest of nights, America will not go silently.

Our Allies have begun to send support while their allies have started sending them support, this may very well be the third world war. War was sweeping across the nation, airstrikes were mobilized past the blockade, and key defense points and cities have been under a constant barrage of artillery. Europe, Asian, And south America have mobilized fleets of ships to hit their beachhead full force, while Canada is coordinating with northern states to evacuate and house innocents beyond the walls of the frigid arctic. We’re fighting our best, although I fear that it’s not enough.

“before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”

Martial law has been declared throughout half the country, and an emergency draft has been started. We’re beginning to push back though, we’ve taken back Ohio and Kentucky, and we’ve managed to hold Tennessee from the beginning. Most of the coast is now a war-torn hellscape, and thanks to the smoke flowing in from the east and sabotage by the Russians, the Midwest is having a shortage of crops and food causing mass famine and skyrocketing prices almost everywhere. The safest place right now is western Canada or South/Central America, North America is under an immeasurable amount of pressure.

And then it began, we started losing troops left and right, dropping like flies, the Russians pushed forward and i was moved once again, within the span of two months they pushed up to Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas. They were using Chemical and biological weapons, which lost them several allies and gained them the hatred of the UN and NATO, they were in trouble. Europe and Asia were won over and began to help us retaliate with artillery and air raids, slowly pushing up into Southern Russia while the Europeans began pushing from the East.

We Were doing everything we could to prevent the use of Nuclear weapons, we even tried negotiating. The Europeans were halfway to Moscow and the Asians were wreaking havoc in the south, it was looking up, some troops even began to pull out of the US, we were winning.

But then the call came through. The little red phone was never supposed to ring. I picked it up and heard the words nobody ever wants to hear, “Sir, we’ve detected several launches of nuclear weapons from central and eastern Russia, Their troops have begun to retreat and the missiles are headed for the east coast, how do we proceed”.

“I looked, and there before me was a pale horse. Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him.”

My face turned a pale white and the words evaporated from my throat. We weren’t winning. How naive I was to think that there could be a winning side in this. Calls began coming in fro mall over the world, everyone saw it happen in real-time, everyone saw the launch, every last ruler on this godforsaken rock. There was one question among all of us, Russia had cocked the hammer, do we pull the trigger?

Missile defense systems stationed outside of Russia had intercepted ten ICBMs aimed at us, but that still left ten. Were doing everything not to pull that ****** trigger.

But it wasn’t enough.

“We will not go silently into this night”

The button clicked as it went in, it sent out an alert to every silo in the country and told them to launch. Northern Asia began evacuating and preparing for Armageddon, the artificial rapture brought on by a man so hungry for power that he ended the lives of billions. I went to the surface of the bunker expecting trees and hills overlooking a vast city, but all there was, was smoke and fire and debris, and then the shockwave hit, four golden pillars rose into the sky off in the distance, a great beam of fire and death, bent on the destruction of all that is good and evil.

The roar of the engines rattled my bones, and the flashes were blinding. I went back into the bunker only to be met with a number. 172. The number of rockets launched by the US in less than thirty minutes. In retaliation, Russia launched 136 missiles, around half to three quarters of which were or will be intercepted by Air defense systems. These were truly the end times, and if we somehow manage to survive, then this will be the hardest time in human history.

It’s one thing to play god, but it’s and entirely different game when you decide to play death.
