“I can’t go back.”
As I forced my way through dripping, craggy shafts and decrepit, dying moss pits. As far as I was concerned, there was nothing but non-existence behind me; not that there was much waiting for me at the end either. As I pushed deeper and deeper into the cave, a gargantuan drop-off signed the end of my path. The chasm in my way beckoned with it’s unending stare, as if guiding me into the void. It was just as it had been before; empty, quiet, and apathetic. I never jumped forward. My foot never even took a step to prepare. But soon, I was at the bottom. I had taken the bone-crushing descent many times, and yet it managed to be just as agonizing with every reiteration of the same process.
