secrets of the past

prologue

I must keep her safe.

She must live on.

She must survive.

“We know you’re out there somewhere,” one of them taunted as I frantically looked around for a place to hide. “We’re going to find you sooner than later. Why don’t you come out now and we’ll kill you and your pup very quickly.”

My breath hitched and got caught in my throat.

You will not touch my pup! Ever!

I was able to get as far as a neighboring territory.

I put my pup in a hollow log to hide her and climbed a tree so I could hide as well. Of course, I picked a tree that I could still see my pup while in it.

“I can smell you.” The man chuckled. “Why don’t you just come on out sweetheart?”

Never!

“Come on, your highness,” another spat. “Come on out.”

No!

“Check the trees.” The first one ordered.

Dread filled the pit of my stomach. I should have known that the trees would be the first place that they’d check.

Not good…

They caught me, but they couldn’t find my baby girl. I hope she’s okay; I hope someone in the pack found her and are treating her well.

I feel bad that her father and I won’t be able to be in her life and see her grow up, but I guess it’s for the best. She needs to live.

“Wake up!” my capturer ordered, slapping me.

I slowly opened my eyes to glare at him.

“Now, we’re going to play a little game here, okay?” he said tauntingly. “I’m going to ask you questions, and you’re going to answer them.”

“That doesn’t sound like much of a game,” I smirked. “That sounds much more like an interrogation to me.”

“Shut up!” he ordered.

Whatever.

“Where is your child?” he asked.

“You might as well kill me now. It’s not like I’m going to tell you anything.” I replied. “I will never betray my family.”

“That can be arranged, sweetheart.” He chuckled.

Something hit me on the back of my head and everything slowly started to turn dark as I fell face first into the ground.

I hope my little Elena is okay.
