Imaginary

By @ColorfulAlpaca

One day, when Nora woke up to go to school, she left without saying goodbye. That’s when it started. I thought she was just late, but over and over again it happened. One day, she came home, crying and ran to her room. “Nora?” I whispered sitting on the edge of her bed. She sniffed and looked up. She stared at me. The little girl. The girl I’ve been assigned to protect. The girl everyone sees as this teenager who’s all grown up. And maybe she is. But I’m still here. Which means the little girl inside her is still there. “Hey Amaya.” she smiled weakly. “Sorry I haven’t been around much. Sorry. I really am. You’re still there? Right? Even though I’ve basically abandoned you?” I nodded and wiped my eye. “I am.” She sighed and rolled over. “I’m so stupid. She’s just a stupid imaginary friend I created when I was lonely.” She muttered. “No, no, no, no!!” I yelled as she sat up. “I wish I could go back to being a kid. Where my only friend, real or not, loved me. When I was happy. Without stupid toxic friends.” I wish I was really real. I wish I could hug her, and comfort her. I wish we could go back, too.
