The Deeper Message/Freshmen Year

The bell rings, the lockers slam, and the herd erupts from nearly every door in the building. Welcome to high school.

I have never been so nervous in my life and seeing all the tall upperclassmen made me feel like I was in a completely different world, like I was a single ant in an enormous sand castle. It was intimidating.

Having the experience of meeting new people through joining cross country in the summer and practicing with the high schoolers in marching band, made me feel much more confident with walking into the school on my first day. The day I thought would never come.

But none of that changed the fact that I had no idea where to go or how to get to any of my classes. Luckily, I had a friend who was very accustomed to the area and made me feel much more comfortable maneuvering through the crowds of students.

Middle school being so sheltered was nothing like high school, especially all the expectations that I had from watching High School Musical. No dancing on tables, no sporadically singing in class, and not much student imposed school spirit.

I was only a freshman. A freshman in high school that had no idea what I wanted to do, what classes to take, and how to make the best of my experience. After spending nearly three full years in high school, I believe that I can safely say that high school has made a drastic impact on the way that I work, handle tough situations, and respond to demanding schedules. I’ve learned lots in regarding academics, but arguably more in relation to life lessons that I plan on taking with me into the career path and lifetime ahead of me.

Even though high school may never be as exciting as the scenes produced on Disney, it will always remind me of all that I learned, embraced, and enjoyed through the years. High school made an impact on me and it’s up to you whether or not it will make an impact on you.
