Lukey’s Perspective

The silence lingers on for another few minutes, before Mary talks.

“Maybe we should have people step outside for a few hours at a time? Y’know, to keep watch for the police or anything..” she shifts on her feet, her eyes darting around the room nervously.

“That’s not a bad idea.” I comment tiredly. I turn to Jackson. “If you don’t mind taking the first shift..?”

He nods his head and makes for the door. “Don’t worry about it, Lukey. Get some rest, I’ll be on the look out!”

The last thing I see of him is a tuft of yellow hair before the door swings shut.

Annie snorts. “Of course you’d trust him, of all people, to go on watch.”

I adjust my glasses and stare at her in confusion. “I’m sorry.. what?”

She waves her hands around. “Nothing. You’re just attached to an awfully strange person.”

“That’s none of your business, so please leave us alone.” What an odd comment..

“Okaay then. I can tell when I’m not wanted.” Annie plods out of the room only to remember her rather small surroundings and plop down on the couch in a huff of anger.

What was that all about? I rub my forehead and let out a somewhat quiet sigh, not wanting to disturb the others. My headache has only gotten worse as this has progressed, it feels like a hammer is pounding at my head. I feel a bit dizzy, so I might as well rest as Jackson has suggested. If this happens again.. I’ll focus better. I’ll check the crime scene for clues before accusing based solely on alibis. That’s what they‘d want, after all.

I head towards the bedroom, stumbling a bit. Maybe I’m more tired than I thought…

I collapse onto the bed and the last thing I see before I fall asleep is the light fixture hanging above my head.

‘You did this! This is all your fault!’

A blurred image of a woman surges at a man, only to be held back by two others. I know this scene well. It passes through my nightmares nearly every night.

‘I.. I don’t know what you mean!’

‘Oh you’re so full of it!’

I stand behind the woman, in stunned silence.

1̵̨̗̰̘̜̠̓̏̑̍̈̾͑͆̀̎͝͠0̵̳̾̊͜-̴̨͕̳̘͈͕͉̝̭̤̬̽̄̃̔̈́1̴͖̘̂̈́̀̈͂͒͠0̶̡̢̩̰͙̯̜̖̼͔͎̅̊̄̈́͌̇̓̎̽̕͘͜͝1̴̨̡̛̪͎̺̻̜̪͖̓3̶̡̝̱̻̩̞̳̹̻͔̙̥̝͑̚1̷̨̨̛͚̤̜̭̤̼̟͕̤͕̿̐̂̏̓̂͜1̸̛̥̺̦̠̝͍͚̹̲̞̈̏̿͂̏̕͝͠1̴̨͕̗͔̳͈̼̖́̽̌̍̾̀̄̄͠9̷̥̣̻̲̭̭͓̳̙̟́̈́̓͛̎̚͝͝͝1̷̛̤̰̰̫̈́͋̅̾̍̒͗̈́̒5̴̝͕̦̌̋̈́͊͊̀̓̆́͊͜1̴̧̧̟̹̱̌̀͝4̶̣͉̦̗͈̱̣̣̙͕̰͓͖̈́̆̈́̀̈́̉͛̈́͌̕̕͝͝?̸̖̭̻̘̯̻̘̘̒͂̈͂͒̀̑̆̅̏͗́̇̿̌̎͗̀̽̎̕̚͠͝͠͠”

It’s almost as if a line stands between us. Myself, the woman, and a few others on one side. 1̴͓̺̟̜̦̰̐0̷̨̯̲̤̹͐1̸̡̠̉̔͐̂̍́̀̀͌͑̽̚̕͝3̵̡̝͓̤̥͈̖̦̙̈̎̋̈́̀̇̐̉̃̕ͅ1̷̧̡̟̱̘͈͖̦̎̆̈̃̔́͛̽̔͝1̵̙͍̳̭̞͚̣̽̈́͋̿1̴̢̹͓̤̍9̷̡̥̱̟͖̞̙͚͓̣̗̗͕̰͕̈́͌͊͘̕1̴̖̞̺̖̣͔̦̣͙̺͚͚͒ͅ5̷̢̘̗̆̏̀̉͌̓̅̈́̉͋̀̃̆̓͘1̷̧̣̫̙̘̗̩͇͕͎̉̈́̏͋͒̑̌͋̅͝͝4̴̛̱͌̍̀ ̴̡̯ and the rest on the other side.

”I..Lukey? What are you doing with them..-?’

‘With them?’ I gestured to those near me. ‘What’s wrong with them? They aren’t the ones that constantly harassed me, pushed me to my limits- Why are you suddenly siding with those people?’

My heart aches. Watching this scene over and over, every night, it never gets easier to experience.

My vision unclouds. The woman has two pigtails, both black. And the person across the line.. well, they have brown hair. And seeing them as they were then.. it hurts.

Author’s note. Heya, sorry for any errors in this one, I rushed it! Also, for the dream, when the numbers have the weird text, what he’s saying isn’t actually numbers, I’m just ciphering it for * + * mystery * + * And that’s a wrap for Past! Into ‘Is’! Who do you think the mysterious dream people are? (clues in past chapters?)
