How to Support Your Favorite Bookstores and Authors from Home

Now more than ever, books are the perfect way to take a break from reality, pass the time, and feel connected! Your favorite authors and bookstores could use your help right now. In order to keep everyone safe, many events have been canceled, and stores have had to close or limit their hours of operation. Book Nerds to the rescue! Here’s how you can help while social distancing.

1. Call your local bookstore.

Your bookstore might be offering a pick-up service. You can order a book online or over the phone and pick it up from the store.

2. Pre-order.

Pre-ordering a book helps both authors and bookstores. If you can’t physically get to a bookstore, you can still support bookstores by pre-ordering. There’s also cool swag you can receive by showing your proof of pre-order, like these awesome stickers.

3. Follow authors.

Authors are working around the clock to connect with readers and provide content and community via social media. Authors who cannot attend events in person are hosting live events on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, providing fun content like storytimes and Q&As!

4. Follow publishers.

Team Underlined and friends at other publishers are working hard to give you updates and content every day! Check out our weekly schedule, and make sure you’re following us on Instagram @GetUnderlined for the most up-to-date info. If you have younger siblings or little ones at home, check out @RandomHouseKids for storytimes, bedtime book recs, and activities!

5. Try ebooks.

What a perfect time to try something new! Ebooks are a great way to keep your TBR pile fresh from home. You can find great deals on ebooks, too!

6. Host a virtual book club.

Social distancing can get pretty lonely! Plan a group FaceTime or group chat with your fellow Book Nerds, pick a book you can all read from home, and discuss. Check out our ten easy steps for hosting a virtual book club here.

7.  Keep reading!

This is a stressful time, but we will all get through it together. Keep reading, and let us know how we can help!
