Two Ideas of Paradise

By @Sigy17

Chapter 1: Lucille

There are three things the human brain cannot resist noticing; they are food, attractive people, and danger. Lucille could not help but think of this as she morosely watched the soon-to-be owners of her family’s farm get out of their car. They looked out of place on the farm, and she supposed they were, what with their (newly dusty) black car, finely-tailored clothing, and vibrant accessories. Lucille was certain that a single earring off of whom she assumed was the buyer’s wife would be enough to buy their barn twice over. She felt a pang of jealousy shoot through her at the sight. Not that she would want any of that material wealth, but she would be lying if she said the option wouldn’t be nice. They were quite a sight, the two rather harsh-looking adults and their teenage son. He was, unfortunately, rather handsome. His tall, slender frame, gelled hair, and strategically placed charming smile were increasingly irritating as the seconds slipped by her.
