I wore
My favorite black dress
To the visitation,
Now,
It is no longer
My favorite.
The family all stood in a line,
A line of black
Suits and dresses,
Their bond even tighter
Now
After everything they had endured
Together.
I bit
The inside of my lip
Hard
In order to keep the tears at bay.
I tasted
Blood
But my pain did not matter,
I was trying to be steel
Titanium
And they were clay,
Full of love,
As they wrapped me in their arms
“Thank you so much for coming!”
“We love you!”
I was not expecting such strength,
Such love,
It seemed to crystalize them,
While it turned my heart to rust
