Thinks & Inks

Langauge Barrier

Our language

Has failed us.

How are three words

I’m so sorry

Enough?

How are those three words

I’m so sorry

Supposed to convey

The appropriate emotion

For the loss of a life?

How are those three words

I’m so sorry

Supposed to convey

The depth of grief

The depth of loss

The unfathomable pain

I do not

Understand

How these words

I’m so sorry

Are the only words we have

To show our range of sadness,

From apologies over trivial things

To the things that truly matter.

How

are these words

sufficient

enough?

How

are these three words

supposed to embody

every apology-worthy

circumstance?

How

has English

failed

us so?

I’m so sorry

That your soccer team didn’t win

I’m so sorry

That you burned your cake

I’m so sorry

That you lost your glasses

I’m so sorry

That you got a C on your quiz

Am

So

Sorry

That your son died yesterday…
