Sweet dreams are made of this, who am I to disagree, Travel the world and the seven seas, Everybody’s looking for something.
The reality in that last sentence hit me hard. Isn’t everybody looking for something whether it be fame and fortune, or true love? I shook these thoughts away as we pulled up to the new house. It looked pretty boring from the outside, brown siding and patches of dead grass everywhere in the lawn. I looked at my parents.
“You’re kidding right? This isn’t seriously where we’re going to live is it?”
My parents exchanged glances and my dad let out a nervous chuckle. “‘Course it is. It may not look like much from the outside but I’d bet that it looks better on the inside. You’ve heard the saying ‘Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”
I looked at the house again and hopped out of the car and grabbed my backpack. I walked up to the door when I saw something dash into the backyard. A human-like figure. I decided to follow it. Once I got to the backyard, there was a horrid smell. I tried following it but it seemed to be coming from every direction. I noticed that it seemed to have gotten horribly dark….even though it was only 1 pm when we arrived. That’s when I heard it. It was soft, almost inaudible. It was a woman singing what seemed to be a lullaby. It kept getting closer and closer until it sounded like it was right behind me.
“Sleep sleep sleep
Don’t lie too close to the edge of the bed
Or little grey wolf will come
And grab you by the flank,
Drag you into the woods
Underneath the willow root.”
The woman’s voice was soothing and pleasant, but those words were unsettling….I could feel myself drifting off to sleep…
