Prolouge: I, Chalice Arthur
For five years I, Chalice Grace Arthur, was a simple first maid at the whim of a very lavish and decorated family, the Winsteads. Taken in at a young and fruitful age from the Happy Angels Home for Children and Unemployed, all I knew was them and only them. To serve was easy and quaint, and nothing was tedious with excitement rounding every corner. But the hourglass can only last an hour, and when it empties it leaves a hollow absence that needs to be filled, without the drapes of death. I’m suddenly brought into a whole new light and am soon to face off against one of my biggest challenges: becoming the Lady’s Maid for a rich and wealthy land owner by the name of Mistress in Victorian England. Like that, I am whisked away from all I know and live for, and dumped into a mess of scandalous romances, government conspiracies, theivery, family fueds, and whatever more the Charlette family has to through at me. The tailor threads the needle, but I, Chalice Arthur sews the red thread.
