Poetry: College

Child

It’s so amazing

It’s so beautiful

yet there’s sadness in my smile

Everyone is cheering

and I cheer too

but I don’t think it’s for the same reasons…

I’m drowning in the waves

of my existential despair

just sittin’ here wondering

does anything matter

if nobody else is there?

like a tree that falls in the woods

with no-one around to hear

like a child, crying

covered in bruises

wondering

if anybody cares…

does anybody care?

does anybody care?

We’re getting too comfortable

with turning the blind eye

thinking it’s a parent’s right

how they raise their child

while you’re watching them cry

bruises cuts and lacerations

do you really think this is right?

do you really think this is right…

when they’re just a child

they’re just a child

Do you know what it’s like

to lie awake at night

and fear

for your life?

Maybe not that you’ll actually die

but it gets harder every day

to stay alive inside…

and I’ll tell you,

hitting is the easy option

you don’t want a solution

you just want a way to stop them

do you really think that’s right?

when they’re just a child

they look up to you

every single night they

cry…

an innocent child

you let them die.

You think because you’re hurt

you have the right to hurt someone else…

Don’t you remember being told

that lashing out

is a cry for help?

GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER

GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER

this isn’t right…

GET YOUR HANDS OFF HER

DON’T YOU ******* TOUCH HER

this isn’t right…

she’s just a child…

she’s just a child…

this isn’t right…

she’s just a child…

she’s just a child…

a human life…
