Left in the Shadows (Star Wars AU)

By @AravisKenobi

Welcome! I hope you enjoy what I’ve written in this alternate universe fan fiction! This story delves into the life of Shmi Skywalker, whom we sadly did not get enough time with in the Star Wars universe. I’ve always wondered what exactly went on in that 10 year stretch between Ep. 1 and Ep. 2. She’s been one of my favorites for a long time, and I’ve always thought it was a shame we didn’t get much of her in Ep. 2.

The alternate universe part of this story comes from the addition of Petra Skywalker (Kenobi), who is the adopted daughter of Shmi. As you might guess from my username, Obi-Wan is my favorite Star Wars character, and I think it’s sad he never really got a love interest in the films. Yes, I know, he got them in the books and he had one in Clone Wars, but still. This story idea existed long before Clone Wars came on the scene, although it has undergone various incarnations and rewrites. What you will read, both here and in its partner story “Not Quite a Shadow” are the final rewrite versions. Anyway. This particular fanfic will focus mainly on Shmi and how she deals with the loss of her children.

I hope you enjoy, and God bless!

Author’s note 3/30/19: Due to major/glaring inconsistencies between this and Not Quite a Shadow, I need to do some revision work, which I feel will only work if/when I have a beta reader who can help me resolve them. I’m the world’s worst at writing new material, so Not Quite a Shadow will take priority as my beta editing project right now. As I’m struggling to get Not Quite a Shadow beta edited (I’m having to do this myself as well as write new material for it), you can understand how this might take a backseat to that story.
