Chapter Seven

A few days later, their father had woken up very early. Elizabeth and Chris could hear him moving around the house. Heavy mechanical footsteps could be heard following him. Elizabeth knew what it was and wasn’t concerned, but Chris shook like a leaf. “W-what is that?” He whimpered. “That’s just the robot Daddy has built.” Elizabeth assured him.

The footsteps faded away and they both left the room and made their way to the rather empty living room. “Where did they go?” Chris whispered. “I don’t know.” Elizabeth replied as they both looked around. A couple minutes later, their father appeared in his security uniform.

“I’m going to make a trip to Chica’s Party World. I have to check up on a few things, make sure everything is working as it should.” Their father announced as they all ate breakfast in the kitchen. “Can I come with you?” Elizabeth asked excitedly. “I suppose so.” Her father said.

Mike mumbled some kind of insult under his breath to Elizabeth as he poked at his cereal with his spoon. Chris gave Elizabeth an encouraging smile. They both sat across from Mike, so that they were beside each other. Occasionally Mike would kick them under the table. Their father sat by himself on a different end of the table.

After breakfast, Elizabeth and her father went to Chica’s Party World.

“What happened to that animatronic robot thingy you were making?” Elizabeth asked on the car trip. “I finished it and put it away.” Her father answered. “Oh. Can I see it sometime? Where did you put it?” Elizabeth asked with shining eyes. “Maybe tomorrow.” Her father mumbled and kept driving, looking straight ahead and leaving the other question suspiciously unanswered.

They arrived. It didn’t look any different than last time. Elizabeth headed straight for Circus Baby and her father disappeared into a room. He’s supposed to be checking on Circus Baby or the other animatronics. Elizabeth thought, looking to where her father went. She managed to shake away this thought, and looked at Circus Baby from her window. Then she crept to the doorway. Then she stepped into the room.

“What are you doing?” Came an angry voice from behind Elizabeth.

Elizabeth turned around quickly to face her father. “I just wanted to see her!” Elizabeth said. “I told you not to mess with it.” Her father responded, eyes narrow and arms crossed. “That was the last time! I figured you had her ready now!” Elizabeth protested. “No. Now leave it alone.” He said. “Daddy, you let the other children go see her! Why won’t you let me go? Please! Just this once!” Elizabeth begged. Her father grabbed her hand tightly, and they left the building.

After each new animatronic(s) built they both went back to Chica’s Party World. And each time Elizabeth asked to play with Circus Baby. She begged and begged. But the answer was always no.

“Daddy, just once let me go play with her! She’s so pretty and shiny! Didn’t you make her just for me?”

“Daddy she can make balloons! Have you seen her make balloons? Oh, daddy let me go to her!”

Then one day Elizabeth decided to do something. Something bad. She knew she would get in trouble for it. Big trouble.

It was a great day at Chica’s Party World. A kid had a birthday party going on so the place was extra loud and packed.

Elizabeth’s father was nowhere to be seen, so she slipped into Circus Baby’s room easily unnoticed. Kids ran in and out the room. It appeared a game of tag had started. Circus Baby was on a stage this time. She sang into her red microphone and Elizabeth noticed she was covered in glitter.

Tables had been moved into the room and balloons had also been added. None of the kids sat at the tables. Eventually, the kids had all run out the room and Elizabeth was left alone with Circus Baby.

“Daddy isn’t watching.” She told Circus Baby. Circus Baby looked at her with her beautiful bright blue eyes, but didn’t respond. In fact, she had stopped singing. Elizabeth noticed music coming from somewhere else in the building.

Circus Baby was silent. It was like she was calculating something and waiting to decide what to do next.

“You’re even better up-close!” Elizabeth exclaimed, and stood right in front of Circus Baby. “Don’t tell daddy that i’m here. I’ve been wanting to watch a show too. I don’t know why he won’t let me come see you, you’re wonderful!” Elizabeth exclaimed. Suddenly she noticed she was alone in the room. Kids could still be heard shouting and yelling with excitement from other parts of the building.”Where did the other children go?”

This thought floated away as the plates on Circus Baby’s stomach unwinded to reveal an ice cream cone holding vanilla ice cream, the swirled kind. “Oh my gosh! That’s amazing!” Elizabeth exclaimed, taking hold of the cone. She tried to take it but it wouldn’t budge. It was being held by a metal claw extending from Circus Baby’s stomach. Then it released and Elizabeth held the cone in her hand happily. Then something horrible happened.

Instead of the claw retreating back, it moved forward. It grabbed Elizabeth by the waist. She screamed and dropped the cone. The claw started to pull her in. Into Circus Baby’s stomach. In, into the darkness.

“Help!” Elizabeth cried out. But nobody could hear her. It was too loud. She finally got pulled in. The plates closed. Darkness all around.

Children entered the room once more but they couldn’t hear Elizabeth’s cries over their own excitement.

Nobody ever found Elizabeth, but after that, Circus Baby’s eyes had turned green.
