Fly: A Poem

By @Madison

She sits

Empty and alone

And I tell her not to cry.

I look at her

Say

“Look at my wings

Don’t you see I can now

Fly?”

She hasn’t had a thing to drink

Not a thing

To take her high.

I haven’t done a thing, she thinks Please

Won’t someone tell me

Why?

She goes out to the sea and sinks Guilt makes her feel like she could die.

I pull her up

Say

“I know it’s hard

But, please,

You have to try.”

She rises above the water

And heads back out

To the tide.

It’s been a year,

She now thinks

In an empty bed she lies.

I look at her

Wish she could see my wings

As I turn toward the sea

And fly.
