I couldn’t help but be nervous. I was going out of the building for the first time in months. It has been interesting being here but they never let you out for even for a second it’s been so long since I have seen the sun. I like maybe even love Shaun but I’m not sure what he thinks of me.
I walk to the training room with my pack. Shaun is there looking cute as always but also serious. He said, “ Are you ready?” I answer, “ As ready as I’ll ever be. Let’s go!”
We walk to a dark room, Mick was there in a suit like usual. Mick said, “ You will drive to Hollywood, California and find this teen.” He holds up a file with a picture of a 14-year-old boy with black hair and pale blue eyes. “ You are to bring him back here unharmed or you will both answer to me. Am I clear?” We both answer him, “ Yes sir, crystal clear. See you in a few days.”
Me and Shaun walk out of the building through a secret door in the dark room. I see light for the first time since I have been here. The sun hurts my eyes but the fresh air felt like breathing for the first time. I see Shaun in the sunlight he is like an avenging angel with his blond hair and golden eyes, fierce but kind. We get into a van that was parked outside. It was black, he was obviously going to drive since I don’t have my license yet.
When we started driving neither of us talked. I broke the silence, “ So if you have been there since you were 10, how did you get your license?” He shifted then spoke, “ When I turned 16 Mick took me to get my license. I have been driving ever since.” I wanted to know more but I left it alone for I did not know what to say.
The next time we spoke was after a few hours on the road. I said, “ Do you like being with Mick?” He sighed and said, “ He is the only family that will accept me for who I am.” I said, “ If you were part of my family I would accept you.” He said, “ Thanks. I think. So why did you run away?” I said, “ When I was at school I was in the gym. A mean girl was saying about how I didn’t belong. I was mad at her I felt a rush then everyone was running away and the fire alarms were ringing. I saw that there was a circle of fire around me but I wasn’t scared I was empowered but the rush went away along with it my feeling of empowerment. So, I got scared and ran home, my family was still out so I grabbed what I could and ran. I ran to this abandoned house at the end of the street. I went to sleep and when I woke up I heard sirens, I thought they were after me. The rush came back and the fire spread everywhere I looked the fire was there. I just was scared I curled into a ball and went to sleep only to wake in the strange dark room.” I was panting just thinking about what had happened but also was relieved to have told someone. He was just looking at me in awe. We went back into silence.
