CHAPTER 1
Luna
“But this child is yours!” I cry.
“Do I look like I care that it’s mine? Get an abortion for all I care.” Elliot tells me.
“How are we going to be together if we can’t even figure this out?”
“I have a solution. How about you take care of this thing and I go.” He tells me.
“You’re breaking up with me? After everything?”
“Yup.”
“What the hell? You can’t do this to me. I can’t do this alone Elliot.”
“Well, you’re definitely not doing it with me.”
He storms away as I stand there in shock. I pull my phone out of my pocket and call Ella.
“Hey honey. How did it go?” Ella asks.
“Can you come get me?”
“Give me ten minutes.” Ella responds. She hangs up and when it hits six minutes, I hear tires squealing.
Ella and Maggie are in the car, I get in and Ella starts driving.
“Why am I not enough?” I question.
“You are enough, Luna. He is just a jerk who put his pleasure before his responsibilities.” Maggie tells me.
I stay at Maggie’s house the rest of the weekend. By Monday, her parents told me that I needed to find a different place to stay. Maggie drives me to school.
Ella is there waiting for us, “Are you ready?” She asks.
“Nope but let’s go.” I respond.
I manage most of the day without seeing Elliot but at the end of the day as I am walking to my locker to meet Ella, I see him laughing with his friends. He sees me and instantly starts whispering to his friends. They glance at me and start snickering.
I start to feel like I am going to throw up, so I dart to the closest exit. It just so happens that the exit leads to a park. I collapse in the grass and start gagging.
I hear someone come up behind me. “Hey, are you okay?” I hear a faintly familiar voice ask.
I shake my head and croak, “No, I’m really not.”
‘Here, come with me. Let’s get you cleaned up.” He gives me his hand and he carefully pulls me up. He does a double take when he sees my face. “Luna? Is that really you?”
“Hey Tobias.” I grimace.
“Oh love. What happened to you?”
“I’m okay.”
“Do you have anywhere to go?” Tobias asks.
“I was living with my ex, but he kicked me out.”
“So, you are out here alone? Where were you planning on staying tonight?” He asks.
“I haven’t had time to think about that yet.”
“At least come with me and get cleaned up. Okay?”
I nod and he leads me to what I am guessing is his apartment. He holds the door open for me. “Thanks.” I mumble.
“The bathroom is over there.” He points to the left. “Use what you need for your shower. There is also an extra toothbrush under the sink.”
“Okay.” When I am in the bathroom, I shut and lock the door. I take my clothes off and get in the shower. Once I am all clean, I get out and dry off. I start brushing my teeth when there is a knock on the door. I wrap the towel tighter around me and I go unlock the door. I open it just enough that he can see my face.
“Here are some clean clothes.” Tobias hands them to me.
“Seriously, thank you.”
“No problem.” He replies.
I close the door and lock it again. As I get dressed, I notice what he gave me. He gave me a pair of his sweats and a t-shirt. I use my ponytail holder to tie the shirt and I roll up the legs of the sweats.
I walk out with the dirty clothes and wet towel. He shows me where to put each of them.
“I was thinking that since you don’t have a place to stay, you could stay here. If you want.” Tobias says nervously.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to be a burden.”
“Yes. Please stay.”
“Thank you, Tobias. You have no idea how much this means to me.”
“It’s not a problem. Really.”
I hug him and then my phone starts ringing. I abruptly turn and I get dizzy. I start to feel like I am going to throw up, so I rush to the bathroom. I throw up in the toilet.
Tobias rushes in and holds my hair away from my face, “Oh, love.” He sighs.
I ask for him to bring me my phone. I check to see who called and it was Elliot. I start to listen to the message.
Luna, I called to say that you need to keep your **** friends away from me. Ella is acting like I hurt you or whatever. It is not my fault that you got pregnant. You could kill the baby for all I care. No matter what you say that thing will never be my child. I am done with you and your ****** friends. If I hear from any of you ever again, I will find you and that thing won’t be the only thing that is going to be dead. This is your last warning.
I start to cry, and Tobias comes over to hold me. “Who was that?” He asks concerned.
I pull away from him, “It doesn’t matter.”
“Luna please don’t lie to me. I just want to help you.”
“I’m fine, okay? Can you just leave me alone?” I curl into myself.
“Okay, I’m sorry.” He gets up. “Do you want me to take you to your room?”
“Please.” I stand up and he takes me to my room.
A couple days later my stomach hurts. I can’t move because it hurts so bad. I’m on the couch and it’s 7:00pm. I have tried to wait it out to see if it would go away but it just gets worse.
“Tobias.” I call out calmly.
“Yeah?” He responds from the kitchen.
“I can’t get up.”
He comes into the living room. “What do you mean?”
‘I mean that it hurts too much to get up. I can’t move.”
He walks over to me, “Where does it hurt?”
“My stomach and… lower.” I blush.
“Do you want to go to the hospital or do you want me to call my friend Jasper. He volunteers at the hospital, and he will probably know what is wrong.”
“Can you call Jasper? I don’t want to make this a bigger deal than it needs to be.” I tell him.
