Hawk had thought that the day seriously couldn’t get any weirder.
There he was, with three people he barely knew, sitting in a makeshift campsite and essentially trying to figure out his life.
Then the strange people who were very likely to be mentally insane crashed the party.
One was another teenage girl wearing a purple robe. She must have been about sixteen. The other was an old man with a white beard, a long gray cloak, and a staff. Both looked like they had come straight from either Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter.
“Excuse me for not knowing this, but who the heck are you?” Hawk asked.
“That’s not currently important. You should be asking yourselves how you found this place.” The girl in the purple robe gestured to the area around them.
“Well, you see, there’s this thing called walking,” Hawk said. “We also have these fascinating things called eyes. Why does it matter?”
The girl scowled, which made her face look all pouty. Hawk couldn’t help finding that cute.
“How could it not matter? This is a place of power. Everything around us is just so… alive.” She spun around once.
“Uh, look, lady, I’m not sure what you’re talking about, but I have a great therapist I can call if you’re looking for one.”
The girl opened her mouth to protest, but the bearded guy raised his hand.
“Peace, Destiny,” he said. “You’re overwhelming our guests.”
“Guests?” Michael spoke up. “Last we checked, nobody else was present.”
“Oh, but Michael, there’s always a presence. You just have to look in the right places!” Destiny said.
Aliya frowned. “How did you know his name?”
The Gandalf/Dumbledore-looking guy replied, “Only simple knowledge, my dear girl. I suspect you have a sense of it yourself. But what’s this I feel?” He leaned toward her, pushing a pair of silver-rimmed glasses up his nose slightly. Aliya backed up against a tree. “Ah. I sense… sorrow, yes, but also understanding.” He adjusted his glasses again. “You have lost someone very important to you, hm? And yet, you have refused to lose your gift of perseverance. Very good.”
“Wh-who are you?” Aliya managed to choke out.
“A good question,” he replied. “I am Ravius, Defender of Light, Wizard of the Wise, Keeper of Peace. And you four”- he pointed to Michael, Aliya, Cora, and Hawk – “have been chosen for a destiny like no other.”
