Veteran’s Post

Veteran’s Post

I was fifteen in Colorado Springs

Starless night from the city lights

Girl hittin’ sixteen dancing inside

She was so happily flyin’ high

The sparkle in her eyes was all I saw that night

Her boyfriend was there standing at her side

I didn’t know all what I could do,

I promised her that “I’ll look after you”

And she was dancin’ to “Cop Car”

I walked out to the black tar

I said “God, what do I do?”

He said “I’ll look after you”

“Let her have her country song,

“Let her dance to it all night long

“There’s a girl out there for you,

“I’ll make sure that she finds you”

And then I felt God move on me

Underneath the lights

I walked up to the DJ

He was rockin’ goin’ easy

I said “Can you play a song”

He said “I don’t see why not son”

I walked up to her boyfriend

And he said “Hey, what’s up man?”

I said “Up here comes her favorite song

“You better dance with her all night long.

Then she was dancin’ to “Cop Car”

So I walked out to the black tar

I said “Lord, what do I do?”

He said “I’ll look after you”

“Let her have her country song,

“Let her dance to it all night long

“There’s a girl out there for you,

“I’ll make sure that she finds you”

And then I felt God move on me

When you’re young it’s hard to see

There’s someone out there for you to meet

And when you do it sure will be sweet

God has a plan for all of us

All He wants is a little trust

I found mine in the Lord that night

Underneath the light
