Angry

Angry

I’m angry, but I don’t know what I can do about it. For Women’s History month, I’ve been reading books on feminism, and it makes me angry. I’m angry that in the US a rape is reported every 6.2 minutes. I’m angry that women make 78 cents to a man’s dollar. I’m angry that only 4.8 percent of CEOs in leading fortune 500 companies are women. I don’t really know what to do about it. We are in a pandemic. People like to say that kids have voices, and that we can make change, but what do I change? Many of these problems are ones that have to be changed by education, slow change that happens over time. I’m still a kid, and I feel pretty powerless. I have plans for things I want to do and change when I am older, but what about now? What can I do? What can I change? I’ve educated myself, but what now?

Those aren’t the only things I’m angry about of course. A black woman is 3 times more likely to die in childbirth than a white one. I’m angry about that. I’m angry about brutality and violence and inequality, I’m angry that people judge other people based on the color of their skin, or who they love, or what pronouns they use. I’m angry that people think they are better than other people, and that they can mistreat others. I’m angry that people use what some old book says to dictate how they treat women and the LGBTQ+ community. I’m angry that people think they should have the right to own a gun, but that others shouldn’t be able to live their true lives without fear of being attacked because of who they are. I’m angry that our former president was recorded talking about sexually harassing women, and yet no one seemed to care.

And I know that this is awfully repetitive, but I am so angry, and frustrated, and fed up with everything, and I wish someone would just tell me what I can do to fix this awful world.
