Chapter 2: The start
It’s my day off of work. Did I tell you that it is summer? Oh right I didn’t, it is so hot in here it’s like I’m getting roasted when I stay outside.
As I was walking, I pass by a bakery, the best bakery in town. I went inside and I feel the cool air of the air conditioner. I looked around and I saw their special today it was the heart cup, there stood in the glass shelf a single cupcake that looks so delicious. I walked towards the cashier and “the heart cup please” someone chorused with me “oh sorry you can take it” we again said at the same time. The old woman looked amused by what she is witnessing. “it’s ok Ms.” The guy said and I looked at him and I think I got lost in his emerald green eyes. It’s the guy from the café. He looked shocked and his face is now again red. He scratched the back of his head. “Let’s hang out my treat”. I nodded and thanked him.
He sat on the other side of the table smiling the cupcake was cut in half and he had two smoothies with him. “about yesterday” he started. “it’s ok I guess you didn’t recognize me last night at the grocery store” I answered stopping him from adding some excuses. “no I mean about yesterday morning at the café” he said, confusion evident in his face. “that was fine, you were at the grocery store last night, right?” I asked. He shook his head. “can you do me a favor?” I asked again. “can you smile wide,” I said. And he did I looked at his right cheek he doesn’t have a dimple but instead, it’s on his left cheek. “might I ask do you have a twin? And is he named Joel?” I asked continuously. “yes I do” he answered shortly.
We ate in silence until “we’ve been having conversations but we haven’t introduced ourselves” he said. “oh right I’m Grace Audrey Weller” I chuckled. “Greg, Greg James Henderson,” he said shaking my hand. “and yes I am Johnny Henderson’s son” he added shortly. My eyes almost popped out he is the son of a multi-millionaire; no wonder some people are looking at our table. “my apologies Mr. Henderson I did not know” I said really embarrassed. “please it’s Greg we don’t have to be so formal” he said calmly. I heaved a deep sigh of relief, I can’t believe we have been talking casually and he is a multi-millionaire, no wonder he looked so familiar he has appeared in the TV multiple times.
We continued our so-called date until the sky had turned dark.
“let me take you home” he offered politely. I did not decline instead I followed him back to his car. He opened the door and he helped me up. We fell into a comfortable silence none of us breaking the silence until the car stopped.
“we’re here” he said breaking the silence. “thank you for today Greg” I said meaningfully. I saw his eyes glimmer and his dimples showed when he smiled at me. “I had a wonderful day thanks to you Grace”.
I walked to the front porch and looked back, his car was disappearing out of my sight. I sighed happily as I unlocked my door and entered the house. ‘what a wonderful day I had’ I thought. I smiled the entire night and I felt an unfamiliar warmth bubble up inside me when I thought of what had happened.
