A Very Average Kind Of Life

The Subject Of Life

The thing about life is that it’s life; specifically real life. It’s not a fairytale. It’s not a movie. There’s not always a happy ending and there’s not even always a plot or a climax. Life just kinda comes and goes.

In this story there is a girl who goes to school everyday. Once school is over, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, she goes to soccer practice. On Tuesdays and Thursdays she walks home. Every now and then she’ll get a baby sitting job during a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. Sometimes she’ll join the book club at the library. And that’s how her life goes. I mean, there’s the occasional scandal and/or big news: When she gets in trouble, when she stays out too late with friends, or when someone new moves into the neighborhood but her life isn’t exactly movie-worthy. I’m the narrator so I can’t be particularly sorry if that sounds harsh. It’s my job. I’ll tell things like they are…most of the time…

Everyday she wakes up around 6:30. She goes to a bed around eleven or midnight, and after that, the cycle starts over again.

Anyways, all that to say, don’t get excited. In fact, stop reading. As the narrator and observer of this girl’s life, I am bound to stay, but you are free to go. You might try something sci-fi, or maybe go look at the mystery genre; because this story has nothing unusual. It’s just a girl. Maybe you like fantasy? I mean probably even a classic Charles Dickens book will be easier to read than this (no offense Mr. Dickens). If you’re still here… well then I guess I wish you well. Or maybe you’re here because you’re headstrong and determined to believe that this story will actually take a turn… maybe for the better, maybe for the worse, maybe for something entirely unexpected…
