How to Maintain Your #ReadingLife This Fall

Fall is our favorite season, but even we can admit that it is BUSY!

It becomes a lot harder to keep up with that stack of books you want to read when when you’re trying to get great grades, take on extracurricular activities, and maintain a social life. But, dear readers, fear not—we’ve got some tips and tricks on how to maintain your #ReadingLife this season so that your TBR pile doesn’t suffer.

1. Start a book club with your best friends.

You and your friends already obsess about books all the time, so why not make an extracurricular activity out of it? It’s a great way to have a reading group and stay on top of your ever-growing to-read pile.

2. Sneak your e-Reader in whenever you can.

Your school may be strict about phones and laptops, but during lunch, during those particularly boring assemblies, and on the bus to and from school (or even while you’re getting carpooled), there are always little pockets of time to jump-start your #ReadingLife. You’re already lugging around a ton of textbooks, so why not try an e-reader?

3. Treat yourself to one chapter for every homework assignment you complete.

That way, you’ll feel productive and give yourself an excuse to keep reading without feeling like you’re wasting time. You might even find yourself flying through your homework just to get to the next page!

4. Keep at least three to-read books in your locker or book bag at all times.

This way you’ll have plenty of options to choose from if you catch a spare moment.

5. Spend a few lunches in the library.

When you’re in classes all day, it can be hard to find a quiet moment alone to recharge. Lunch is a great time to take a break and read your book in peace. It’s tempting to spend every lunch period goofing off with your friends, but try picking at least one day a week where you get to just sit, read, and relax. Better yet, convince your friends to have a quiet reading lunch with you!

6. Ask your English teacher for reading recs.

Most English teachers have studied literature and writing extensively, and some are even writers and authors themselves. While they usually have to stick to a strict curriculum during the school year, they’re going to know some of the best material outside of assigned reading. You might be surprised at how much you have in common! Plus, forming a solid relationship with your English teacher and showing them how much you love to read is a great way to start prepping for when you’ll need those recommendation letters for college.
