An antioxidant, curcumin is known for its anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antimicrobial and anticancer properties. Due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity, curcumin is potentially therapeutic. Beneficial effects include increased insulin sensitivity, reduced fat-cell proliferation, reduction of hypertension and inflammation. Actives in turmeric (curcuminoids) decreases circulating triglycerides and total cholesterol but elevate good cholesterol.
