Celeb Crush: Emma Watson Is the G.O.A.T. Book Nerd

Not only has actress Emma Watson played our two favorite book nerds (Hermione in Harry Potter and Belle in Beauty and the Beast), but she is also an avid reader and supporter of literacy IRL.

That’s why she wins our love and respect as the G.O.A.T. Book Nerd. There are almost too many things to love about Emma Watson, so we’ve underlined some of our favorites.

1. She loves books.

In an interview with Paste magazine, Emma said, “My greatest relaxation is to sit with a book. That’s how I escape stress—in literature. I always have several books on the go at any one moment, so it’s no good you asking, ‘What’s on the bedside table at the moment, Emma?’ because often I can’t even see the table!”

2. She loves giving books to others.

To entice people into reading, Emma joined Books on the Underground in the UK back in 2016. She and other members would leave books randomly throughout the tube system. The organization has now expanded, so when she visits New York City, she does the same thing, leaving books not just on the subway but anywhere she can.

3. She loves talking about books with others.

Emma started her own book club, On Our Shelf, which is hosted by Goodreads. The book club has forums on everything from feminism to local meet-ups. The best part? Anyone can join!

4. She works with the United Nations.

A United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador since July 2014, Emma has traveled around the world and given speeches to the UN General Assembly. We’ll never forget when she said, “Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. . . . It is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum, not as two opposing sets of ideals.”

5. She supports gender equality.

Emma just won the first-ever gender-neutral Best Actor in a Movie Award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. In her acceptance speech, Watson stated: “The first acting award in history that doesn’t separate nominees based on their sex says something about how we perceive the human experience.” Pinned to the waist of her dress was a blue ampersand, GLAAD’s symbol of inclusion.

6. She can sing!

Just when we thought Emma Watson couldn’t get any more perfect, the official “Beauty and the Beast” Facebook page released a sound bite (before the movie came out) of her singing “Belle,” and she’s wowed us again.

7. She’s got style.

Emma Watson has been on the red carpet for sixteen years (and counting), and her style has always been on point. She’s unique but classy, chic but simple, and always stunning. This Glamour article shows her style through the years, from Hermione to Belle.

Emma will forever be one of our fave celeb crushes. She hasn’t let fame, privilege, or money cloud her life or her relationships. She’s a book nerd, a feminist, an activist, and a beauty, inside and out.
